Three years after leaving the mayor’s office, Shirley Franklin continues in influential roles at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and Purpose Built Communities, a nonprofit organization that works to help struggling neighborhoods. She also sits on the boards of Delta Air Lines Inc. and Mueller Water Products Inc.

In March, Franklin spoke at Albany State University, telling students about the impact of globalization on their careers.

“Your competition isn’t in Atlanta, it’s in Shanghai,” she said.
